Jake Diekman Dominates In Ninth Inning
Jake Diekman was tasked with coming in to close the door in the ninth inning on Sunday. Normally, Matt Barnes (back) would be the closer, but he has been unavailable due to injury. Manager Alex Cora turned to Matt Strahm in the seventh inning and Hansel Robles in the eighth. Diekman came into the ninth inning with a one-run lead over the New York Yankees. He struck out the side and helped the Red Sox get the 4-3 victory. It wouldn't be surprising to see Diekman get more chances in the ninth even after Barnes returns.
