Jake Bloss To Start On Friday For Astros

The Houston Astros are calling up right-handed pitching prospect Jake Bloss in order to make his major-league debut and start on Friday against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, according to a source. Bloss threw 6 1/3 no-hit innings on Saturday and has a sparkling 1.61 ERA in eight games with Double-A Corpus Christi this year. He is 4-2 with a 1.74 ERA in 12 starts with the Hooks and for High-A Asheville. He's the club's No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and a third-round pick just last year, so it's a quick rise for the 22-year-old. With Justin Verlander (neck) currently on the injured list, Bloss could see several starts in the big leagues, although fantasy managers may want to temper expectations right off the bat. For one, he's making a big jump to the big leagues and will face one of the better offenses immediately.
