Jake Arrieta Won't Opt Out Of His Deal
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jake Arrieta will not exercise the opt-out clause in his contract after coming off elbow surgery. He's heading into the final year of a three-year, $75 million contract and will earn $20 million in 2020. The right-hander posted an ERA above 4.00 (4.64) for the first time since 2013 and went 8-8 with a 1.47 WHIP and 7.3 K/9 in 135 2/3 innings (24 starts) for the Phils last season. Arrieta is far from the Cy Young winner he was with the Cubs in 2015, but he has a chance to bounce back for fantasy owners if his arm issues are a thing of the past next year. There could be value in Arrieta in the later rounds as pitching depth.
