J.J. Watt 2020 Outlook: A Top-Ten DL Who Will Be Overdrafted
5 years agoHouston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is a future Hall of Famer, of that there is no doubt. Watt has serious health concerns that have limited him to eight or fewer games in three of the past four seasons, however. Watt was also on pace to put up the second-worst full-season performance of his career before he was injured halfway through last season. The former Defensive Player of the Year has additional concerns that make his fantasy status tenuous, too. He is getting older for his position, he has little help on his defensive line and in his secondary, and he is coming off a torn ACL that could prove hard to recover from for a man of his size and age. All of that said, we know Watt is a unique talent and that alone makes him a top-seven fantasy defensive lineman even with injury concerns. The unknowns about Watt’s injuries, teammates, and recent decline in play are enough to drop him behind Myles Garrett and Nick Bosa. Consider his current rank as the seventh-best DL in fantasy to be on point, and do not select him any higher than fifth amongst DLs.
