Ilya Sorokin Gets Islanders Back To Winning Ways
2 years agoNew York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin produced a game-winning performance with a 23-save shutout in Friday's 2-0 victory over Detroit. He picked up his fourth shutout of the season as the team ended a six-game skid. The Islanders have had an awful time in January, but you wouldn't say so based on Sorokin's numbers, as he still boasts a strong 2.38 goals-against average for the campaign with a .923 save percentage. However, Sorokin's record has taken a proper beating, dropping to 16-16-4. Could Friday mark the start of a turnaround? The Islanders have five of their next seven games at the UBS Arena, and Sorokin boasts a .930 save percentage at home, which is the highest in NHL history among goalies to play at least 50 games.
