Ilya Samsonov had a trying season in Washington last year with COVID. The Washington Capitals gave him one more chance on Monday. His contract is for a season at $2 million. Samsonov did have 13 wins in 19 appearances but had just a .902 save percentage despite posting two shutouts. The Russian goaltender is just 24 but this one-year bridge deal represents an opportunity for both him and the team. Keep in mind, Vitek Vanecek is back after being traded back to the Washington Capitals.
