Heston Kjerstad Making Big-League Debut Friday
1 year agoBaltimore Orioles first base prospect Heston Kjerstad is making his first major-league start on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zach Eflin, serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh in the lineup. Kjerstad had his first big-league plate appearance in Thursday's loss as a pinch-hitter but struck out late in the game. The 24-year-old is one of the team's top prospects, per MLB Pipeline, and was called up this week after hitting .303/.376/.528 with 21 home runs in 122 combined games with Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk. It remains to be seen how much he'll actually play down the stretch in a pennant race for Baltimore, but he could be in the starting lineup for however much longer Ryan Mountcastle (shoulder) is out.
