Grant Holmes Fans Six to Secure Third Win
Grant Holmes allowed six hits and one earned run across seven innings pitched in Saturday's 7-1 win against the San Diego Padres. The former first-round pick walked one and struck out six to even up his record at 3-3 on the season. Holmes fired 65 of 94 pitches for strikes, inducing 12 swings-and-misses for a strong 31% CSW. He had traffic on the bases for most of his outing. Still, he was able to work around a significant portion of it aside from a Manny Machado single in the top of the third that scored Brandon Lockridge after an HBP and a steal of second. The South Carolina native has been mostly effective this season, compiling a viable 3.66 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 55:26 K:BB ratio across 58 2/3 innings (11 appearances [ten starts]). He'll look to keep it rolling his next time out at home against the Boston Red Sox.
