Grant Holmes 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: High Upside Sleeper With Workload Concerns
Grant Holmes had a successful rookie campaign, contributing in both the bullpen and the rotation. He pitched 68 ⅓ innings and made seven starts, posting a 3.56 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 70 strikeouts. He has great swing-and-miss stuff, with his 32.4% whiff rate ranking in the 92nd percentile and his 35.1% chase rate ranking in the 97th percentile. His slider and curveball had individual whiff rates greater than 40%, which bodes well for his transition into a starter this season. He looks locked into a starting spot to begin the season, but he has a good chance to retain the fifth spot in the rotation even once Spencer Strider (elbow) returns. One downside is that the 109 combined innings he pitched last season between the majors and minors was the most he had thrown in a year since 2017. It's unlikely he'd be able to stick in the rotation all year, so expect a move to the bullpen at some point, even if he does succeed in the role. ATC projects him for a 4.02 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 105 strikeouts in 109 innings. He is a good deep sleeper who can provide value to start the year, but he may fizzle out as the season progresses.
