Giovani Bernard 2022 Outlook: Veteran Pass-Catching Back Buried On Depth Chart
2 years agoIn his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, running back Giovani Bernard was used almost exclusively as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. In 12 regular season games, he finished with just eight carries for 58 yards, adding a career-low 23 catches on 29 targets for 123 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Bernard's biggest contribution came in the postseason game against the Eagles when Leonard Fournette was injured, when he had 13 carries for 44 yards and a touchdown. The 30-year-old veteran is currently listed as fourth on the team's depth chart heading into the 2022 season, behind Fournette, rookie Rachaad White and Ke'Shawn Vaughn. When Tampa's backfield is at full strength, Bernard won't see many snaps, outside of obvious passing situations and two-minute drills.
