Giants Showing Interest In Cole Hamels
4 years agoThe San Francisco Giants are among the teams to show interest in free-agent starting pitcher Cole Hamels (triceps, shoulder), even though the 37-year-old hasn't scheduled a throwing session for scouts. Hamels plans to pitch in 2021 after making just one start for the Braves last season. He was limited by left triceps tendinitis and shoulder fatigue but was able to make 27 starts for the Cubs in 2019 while posting a 3.81 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 141 2/3 innings. San Francisco is looking to add a left-handed starter, so Hamels fits the Giants needs with the team currently projected to have an all right-handed rotation. Hamels has been working out every day and is focused on staying on the field in 2021. The veteran southpaw will be worth a late-round flier as low-risk pitching depth, especially if he lands in San Francisco.
