George Springer Exits Early On Friday
9 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (hand) was removed early during Friday's game against the New York Yankees. Springer was pulled from the contest after getting hit by a pitch on the wrist. He underwent imaging on his hand that came back negative. That is good news but doesn't officially mean Springer will be completely fine. For now, fantasy managers should consider Springer as day-to-day. There should be another update on his status this weekend. In the meantime, Davis Schneider who took over for Springer could see more playing time over the next few days.

Blue Jays Might Use George Springer In Left Field
1 month agoToronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that the team might use outfielder George Springer "in left a little bit" in 2025, a spot that he's played just once for three innings in the majors before. The move would let new outfielder Anthony Santander play some right field. As for Springer hitting leadoff this year, Schneider said he'll bat leadoff and a "variety of guys, really" could also hit atop the batting order and it "depends on who we're facing." In addition to Springer, infielders Bo Bichette, Will Wagner and Andres Gimenez are candidates to hit leadoff for the Jays. Springer, now 35, has fallen out of RotoBaller's top-50 outfielder rankings after a rough 2024 campaign in which he hit .220/.303/.371 with 19 home runs, 56 RBI and 16 steals in 545 at-bats. The former first-rounder's ground-ball rate spiked, and he could lose further fantasy appeal if he's dropped further down the lineup more often than not.

George Springer Heads To The Bench
7 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer and catcher Alejandro Kirk are both out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels at Rogers Centre. Rookie Addison Barger, who had a walk-off home run on Friday night, is starting in right field and is hitting seventh, while Brian Serven is doing the catching and batting ninth against Angels right-hander Carson Fulmer. Springer could use the day off after going hitless in eight at-bats with two strikeouts in the last two contests against the Halos. He's also hitting just .171 (13-for-76) in 19 games in August, although he has contributed four home runs, a double, triple and 10 RBI. Barger, 24, does have two home runs this month, but he's mostly struggled in his first 123 MLB at-bats, going 22-for-123 (.179) with four home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored for the Jays.

George Springer Resting On Sunday
8 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. The veteran outfielder returned from a shin injury on Saturday. That being said, Springer appears to be getting a routine rest day here, so fantasy managers shouldn't need to worry about the injury anymore. Addison Barger will cover right field and bat seventh versus right-hander Gerrit Cole. Fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option than Barger in this tough matchup.

George Springer Resting In Series Finale
8 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer will retreat to the bench on Sunday as the Blue Jays look for the three-game series sweep of the visiting Texas Rangers. With Springer sitting, rookie Addison Barger will draw into the lineup in right field and will bat seventh against Rangers right-hander Jon Gray. The 34-year-old Springer is hitting only .227 (81-for-357) on the year, but he's been useful in most fantasy leagues for his power/speed contributions as a lineup regular in Toronto with 13 long balls, 12 stolen bases, 40 RBI and 50 runs scored in 97 games played. The four-time All-Star has also been much better in the month of July, going 22-for-81 (.272) with five round-trippers, four doubles, a triple, 15 RBI, six walks and four stolen bases in 21 games. Barger will be facing Gray for the first time in his career.
