Geno Smith Solid In First Preseason Game
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers backup quarterback Geno Smith performed pretty well in the team's first preseason game. Smith completed 60.9% of his passes for 218 yards (YPA of 9.5) and a beautiful touchdown to depth receiver Geremy Davis. Head coach Anthony Lynn handed the start to Cardale Jones instead of Smith, but said after the game that his rationale for the order was because Jones hasn't been given a chance to really show what he can do yet. Lynn told reporters that the team would do something a little different next week. Smith is the likely favorite to win the backup job since he's started in the league before, but both players have looked good in training camp.
