Gary Sanchez To Play In World Baseball Classic
2 years agoFree-agent catcher Gary Sanchez remains unsigned after playing for the Minnesota Twins in 2022, but he will play for the Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Sanchez should eventually latch on with a team before Opening Day, and competing in the WBC could be a nice way to showcase his skills if he plays well. The 30-year-old backstop hit just .205/.282/.377 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 128 games for Minnesota last year after spending the first seven years of his career with the New York Yankees. The two-time All-Star doesn't make a ton of consistent contact, but he does have nice power at the position and has improved defensively. Sanchez will probably share catching duties no matter where he ends up, but a move to a more hitter-friendly park could help him bounce back.
