Gary Sanchez Not At Camp With Brewers
10 months agoCatcher Gary Sanchez has not reported to spring training with the Milwaukee Brewers this week, and there's no expectation right now as to when/if a deal will officially get done. The Brewers are not commenting on the matter, so the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak is guessing that negotiations/examinations are ongoing. The 31-year-old reportedly inked a one-year, $7 million deal, but it hasn't become official just yet. If he does eventually sign, Sanchez is expected to see at-bats at designated hitter and as the backup behind the dish to William Contreras. The Dominican slugger surprised with the Padres in 2023 and had 19 home runs and 46 RBI in 72 games while hitting just .218 (51-for-234). Sanchez isn't going to hit for average, but he won't be a bad source of power as a No. 2 backstop in two-catcher leagues.
