Freddie Freeman 2023 MLB Player Outlook: High Ceiling After Career Year
2 years agoFreddie Freeman's tenure in Los Angeles has been quite the fun-fest since joining the Dodgers in 2022. The 33-year-old is under LA control through 2027, and it appears that Freeman is improving by the number. The Dodgers are doing something right with Freeman, and the season he just deposited is for the ages. The first baseman finished fourth in NL MVP voting after Paul Goldschmidt captured the hardware. However, Freeman finished second in average (.325), second in OBP (.407), and fifth in OPS (.918). His WAR notched a career-high of 7.1 to the addition of a 157 wRC+ (second highest in his career). His BAPIP leaped 38 points (.359) compared to last year, and the veteran continues to spray the ball proportionately. However, one downside to Freeman's all-around successful year was the descent of isolated power and his home run count. His ISO plummeted 14 points (.186) compared to last season while cranking ten fewer HRs. According to Baseball Reference, Freeman is expected to slash /.302/.387/.494, with 22 home runs in 2023. He has already solidified his game, and the high ceiling is certainly a viable option. With a 10.7 ADP, you can lock up your first baseman needs as early as the first round.
