5 years agoThe Oakland Athletics called up infielder Franklin Barreto from the minors in order to give him a real opportunity for regular playing time at second base. The 23-year-old will be the everyday second baseman if he shows that he can produce at the plate. If he struggles, he'll be sent back to the minors. This is of course bad news for Jurickson Profar, who has been a disappointment in his first year in Oakland and as a former top prospect. Barreto has four hits in 29 at-bats (.138) with two home runs and four RBI in nine games with the A's this season. He's worth a roster spot in AL-only leagues while he's getting the opportunity to play regularly.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
