Francisco Alvarez Sitting In First Game Of Doubleheader
1 year agoNew York Mets rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez will take a seat in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday against the division-rival Atlanta Braves. With Alvarez on the bench, Omar Narvaez will do the catching and bat seventh against Braves right-hander Allan Winans. Alvarez will most likely get the starting nod behind the dish for Game 2. The 21-year-old Venezuelan backstop has taken over the starting catching duties in New York in his first full big-league season. Alvarez has impressed big time. He's hitting just .230 (64-for-278), but he already has 21 home runs, 44 RBI and 41 runs scored in 303 trips to the plate over 86 games. Since the All-Star break, Alvarez is hitting .206 (14-for-68) with four homers, a double, nine RBI and 11 runs scored in 20 games (18 starts).
