Fernando Tatis Jr. 2024 Player Outlook: Elite Power/Speed Combination As A Top-Five Outfielder
10 months agoDespite missing the first 20 games of 2023 due to a PED suspension carrying over from 2022, San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. played in a career-high 141 games and slashed .257/.322/.449 with 25 home runs, 33 doubles, a triple, 78 RBI, a career-high 29 stolen bases and 91 runs scored. Although his numbers weren't as gaudy as when he led the league in 2021 with 42 homers, it was still a pretty impressive season overall for Tatis, especially when considering he missed all of 2022 due to wrist and shoulder injuries and the PED suspension, and was making the move from shortstop to right field defensively. The 25-year-old superstar was much better in the first half in 2023 with an .871 OPS and 16 home runs before slumping post-All-Star break with a .225 batting average and only nine home runs. If he can stay healthy again in 2024 with a possible move to center field on the horizon -- a much more physically-demanding position -- he should be one of the most consistent fantasy producers across all categories. Fantasy managers just shouldn't expect a return to his pre-PED-suspension form. ATC is projecting Tatis to slash .271/.342/.504 with 32 home runs, 90 RBI and 27 stolen bases in his fifth big-league season. If he somehow makes it to you at the end of the first round of fantasy drafts or the start of the second, consider yourself lucky.
