Felix Hernandez Unlikely To Return To Seattle
5 years agoThe Seattle Mariners are unlikely to re-sign starting pitcher Felix Hernandez, even to a minor league deal. King Felix didn't have much of a market at the winter meetings in San Diego, and the speculation is that he'll have to settle for a minor league deal if he wants to continue pitching. The veteran right-hander will be 34 in April and has gone 9-22 with an ugly 5.82 ERA in 44 outings (43 starts) in the last two seasons. Hernandez could be a relief option for a team, but he had no interest in pitching out of the bullpen in Seattle and seems better suited for a starting role. He lives in Miami now, so a minor league deal with the Marlins could be the best fit, although the Fish do have plenty of attractive young arms. At this point in his storied career, Hernandez has no fantasy value left.
