Evan Longoria Has "Moderate" Oblique Strain
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler said that third baseman Evan Longoria (oblique) is dealing with a "moderate" oblique strain. The ailment has kept Longoria out of the team's last two intrasquad games and it could keep the veteran third baseman out of the lineup for the start of the regular season. The 34-year-old can still provide 20-plus home runs in a normal season, but he's no longer a lock as a mixed league third baseman, especially after this injury news. Longoria hit .254/.325/.437 with 20 home runs, 69 RBI and 59 runs scored in 129 games for the Giants in 2019. He hasn't cleared the 30-homer mark since 2016 with Tampa Bay. With both Longoria and Brandon Belt likely to miss Opening Day, we could see Wilmer Flores and Pablo Sandoval manning the corners on the infield for San Francisco.
