Eugenio Suarez 2020 Outlook: A Dependable Asset
5 years agoEugenio Suarez came on a little slow to begin 2019 but finished with a barrage as he hit 32 of his 49 home runs in the final three months of the season. He finished 2019 having hit .271/.358/.572 with 49 HR, 103 RBI, 87 R, and 70 BB. He reached career highs in HR, SLG, and OPS. He also struck out more times in 2019 than any previous season. His K rate was 28.5%, which put him in the bottom nine percent of the league and was nearly four percent worse than any previous season. He also led the NL in strikeouts with 189. This can likely be forgiven with the massive power surge, though. He has proven he can be a versatile hitter that hits for power as he did in 2019 or one that can combine some power and average as he did in 2018 when he hit .283 with 34 HR. Moving forward, we should expect a mixture of what we have seen thus far, which is power and average. Having Mike Moustakas enter the lineup should help as well since pitchers will no longer be able to pitch around him in tight spots. He is currently being drafted as the sixth third baseman off the board with an ADP of 50. This spot provides great value as you can draft at other positions of scarcity and still grab a top-flight third baseman in the fourth round.
