Minnesota Twins right-hander Ervin Santana (finger) is progressing well in his rehab after having surgery on the middle finger of his pitching hand back in February. His finger has fared well in his recently started throwing program and he should be ready to progress to throwing off of a mound soon. Manager Paul Molitor said, “His long toss and his throwing program has gone extremely well. He’s had no issues, as they had hoped. The finger extension is getting better the more he throws.” Pitchers generally need six weeks of spring training to get their arms ready to pitch, but Santana may not need quite that long because of the shoulder exercise program he has been able to participate in. Look for Santana to be back in the big leagues sometime around late May or early June.--Matt Terelle
