Enrique Hernandez 2022 Player Outlook: Projected Leadoff Hitter With Minimal Upside
3 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman/outfielder Enrique Hernandez was a key component of one of the league's most productive offenses last year. He was the Red Sox's primary leadoff hitter throughout the bulk of the year. He played in a total of 134 games and hit .250/.337/.449 with 20 home runs, 60 RBI and 84 runs. While those totals certainly aren't completely meager, they leave something to be desired when considering the opportunity at the top of the Red Sox order. The Red Sox appear to be bringing the band back together this year, meaning that Hernandez figures to be the favorite to lead off for the team once again in 2022. But if he struggles and drops in the lineup, his fantasy value could completely plummet. Hernandez is more intriguing in points leagues than roto or head-to-head categories leagues due to the sheer amount of at-bats and run-scoring opportunities he should have if he remains the team's leadoff hitter. He's worthy of drafting inside the top-300 in points leagues, but you can let him drop more or go undrafted in other formats.
