Edwin Diaz Won't Appeal His Suspension
6 months agoNew York Mets closer Edwin Diaz is not appealing his 10-game sticky-stuff suspension and will begin serving the suspension on Tuesday night. Diaz will be eligible to return to the Mets' bullpen on July 6 for a contest in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. The 30-year-old right-hander says that he didn't use an illegal substance, but he's not going to bother appealing the suspension and will miss the team's next 10 games. Diaz didn't look like himself earlier this year and then landed on the injured list with a shoulder injury, but he reclaimed the closing gig upon his return and has tossed three scoreless innings with two saves and three strikeouts since returning. With Diaz serving his suspension, the Mets could turn to several pitchers, including Adam Ottavino, Jake Diekman and Reed Garrett, in save situations.
