Dylan Cease 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Reliable Health Needs To Be Backed Up With Better Luck
Last year, Dylan Cease was one of the unluckiest pitchers in baseball. Cease's solid 3.56 xFIP and 3.58 SIERA were considerably better than his 4.55 ERA (32 starts). Cease only completed seven innings twice last season, with the lack of going deep into games limiting him to 168 innings. That wasn't helped by Cease's 9.8% BB% (20th percentile). Last year was the fifth consecutive season in which Cease made at least 32 starts, and it's the reliability that helped him get a seven-year contract from the Blue Jays. No one has more total strikeouts than Cease over the last five years (1,106), despite him not reaching 190 innings in any season. Further testament to his durability and Cease's strikeout ability. His 29.8% K% in 2025 ranked in the 89th percentile and was his best since 2022. Even when luck isn't on his side, Cease still provided some fantasy production. While he won't carry as much value in leagues counting quality starts, Cease's track record of good health makes him one of the safest starting pitchers to draft. Provided his luck changes, there's no reason why Cease shouldn't be able to prove he is worth drafting as an SP2 in 2026.
