Didier Fuentes to Make MLB Debut on Friday Against Marlins
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Didier Fuentes will be called up to make his major-league debut on Friday against the division-rival Miami Marlins, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. The 20-year-old from Colombia has impressed this year at High-A Rome, Double-A Columbus and Triple-A Gwinnett, with 48 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 39 1/3 innings, although he has posted an elevated 4.81 ERA and is 0-7. Per MLB Pipeline, he's Atlanta's No. 10 prospect despite turning 20 years old on Tuesday. Fuentes has been much better of late in the minors with an ERA under 3.00 with 23 K's and four walks in 18 2/3 frames over his last four starts. While the matchup is a great one against the Fish, Fuentes is very young and could struggle for the first time in the bright lights in the majors. It's also expected to be just a spot start, so expect to see him sent back to Gwinnett this weekend.
