De'Vondre Campbell 2020 Outlook: Beware The Contract Year Bump
5 years agoArizona Cardinals inside linebacker De’Vondre Campbell made the most of his contract year in 2019. Campbell finished the season as IDP-18 overall thanks to 129 tackles (75 solo), six tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovered, five passes defended, and two interceptions. It was the former Falcons’ third straight season with at least 90 total and 60 solo tackles. The 26-year-old linebacker averaged 13.1 points per game and finished as the 15th linebacker overall in IDP leagues. Campbell moved on from the Falcons’ 4-3 defensive scheme in the offseason, signing a one-year deal to play inside linebacker with the Cardinals in 2020. In his new surroundings, Campbell will face much more competition for solo tackles in Vance Joseph’s aggressive defensive scheme. His primary competition for tackles in the second level was Deion Jones in Atlanta. In Arizona, Campbell will be competing with Jordan Hicks and Budda Baker, the 3rd and 4th ranked NFL tacklers in 2019. Beyond that, Campbell historically hasn’t produced many turnovers in his career. Campbell has just three interceptions and three forced fumbles in four years. Be wary drafting Campbell based on his 2019 production, he faces more competition for solo tackles and doesn’t generate turnovers like some of the other top linebacker options.
