Deshaun Watson 2021 Outlook: Mass Uncertainty
3 years agoDeshaun Watson does not want to be a member of the Houston Texans. The Houston Texans want him to stay. Teams do not want the impending PR nightmare that Watson would bring. The problem is that the Texans' quarterback is pretty much a top-five fantasy quarterback even on a disaster of a team. Watson threw for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions in 2020. This was on a 4-12 team. Watson led the NFL in passing yards as well as yards per attempt and yards per completion. At best, Watson remains a risky fantasy football option for 2021 because honestly, how is he even going to play? Aside from all the legal problems and lawsuits (22 in all), can the Houston quarterback perform on the field? Better yet, will he even be a member of the Texans by September? Also, there is the pounding on the field to consider. Watson has been sacked a league-high 174 times over the past three seasons. Even a 25-year-old is going to feel some effects of that. Consider the lack of assets around him as well. The running game is serviceable but Mark Ingram and David Johnson are not exactly game-breakers. With Will Fuller gone, who stretches the field if Watson does play? Nico Collins is an interesting wildcard here but again, the talent is not quite the same. It all comes back to the most obvious question. Does Deshaun Watson even play in 2021? This is a QB5 or QB6 potentially if all in with Houston but could be off the boards if anything goes off-kilter.
