Derrick Rose 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoLast season, Derrick Rose proved that he still had something left in the tank, averaging 18 points per game and 4.3 assists per game for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, he finds himself in a Detroit Pistons jersey playing alongside Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond.
Rose, Griffin and Reggie Jackson figure to be the primary ball handlers for the Pistons this year, and the degree in which Jackson is involved will heavily dictate just how productive Rose can be. Jackson is an extremely volatile guard and he shot just 42.1% from the field last year compared with Rose’s 48.2%. However, Jackson’s a better athlete and three-point shooter at this stage of their careers.
Unless Jackson is phased out or traded away, Rose will likely score slightly less this year than he did last year, dropping to around 16 points per game. But his assists should remain between four and five per game and he should also maintain solid field goal and free throw percentages. He’s a good late-round draft pick as a bench guard who won’t really hurt you in any category, though he may lack the upside of some other younger guards going around the same point in drafts.
