Derek Carr 2020 Outlook: QB2 With Upgraded Weapons
5 years agoLas Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw for 4,504 yards (career-high), 21 touchdowns (most since 2017), and eight interceptions (fewest since 2016) in 2019. Carr also averaged 7.9 yards per pass attempt, the highest of his career and good for the ninth-highest mark in the NFL, ahead of Deshaun Watson, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Aaron Rodgers--among others. Carr has now thrown for consecutive 4,000-yard seasons and has finished as a top-20 quarterback in fantasy for three-straight seasons. Looking to 2020, the Raiders have pushed their chips to the middle of the table on the offense by making several depth acquisitions during free agency, adding veterans Jason Witten, Nelson Agholor, and Marcus Mariota. Las Vegas also used the draft to acquire explosive offensive pieces. First-round pick Henry Ruggs III was the fastest player at the combine, third-round pick Lynn Bowden Jr. was one of the more versatile players in the SEC, and using their other third-round pick, they added Bryan Edwards, a prototypical outside receiver. The addition of these players, along with returning contributors like Josh Jacobs, Tyrell Williams, Darren Waller, and Hunter Renfrow, gives Derek Carr an array of weapons that should help him finish as a top-20 quarterback once again in 2020.
