Deon Jackson 2023 NFL Player Player Outlook: Could Have Role In Colts' Offense While Taylor Remains Absent
1 year agoIndianapolis Colts' third-year running back Deon Jackson flashed in a small sample size last year but maintains question marks when you dig into his profile. Playing behind star Jonathan Taylor, Jackson never saw the field during his rookie season. In 2022, he was awarded more opportunities as Taylor battled an injury. In four games with over a 40% snap share, the 24-year-old finished, on average, as the RB17 scoring nearly 16 fantasy points per game. His rushing production could have been better, although he was able to succeed in the receiving game. Former Colts quarterback Matt Ryan had one of the lowest average depths of target in the NFL, and hyper-athletic rookie Anthony Richardson will likely push the ball downfield more or use his scrambling ability instead of checking down. As it stands, Jackson and fifth-round rookie Evan Hull will split the Colts' backfield touches until Zack Moss (arm) returns from injury or Taylor resolves his contract dispute and returns from IR. Jackson, listed as the Week 1 starter, should receive the majority of backfield work and should be targeted at his current ADP of 162 at FFPC. Nevertheless, Moss and Taylor would be thrust into the starting role and the lion's share of the backfield touches upon return. The latter's return is questionable, giving Jackson contingent upside throughout the first half of the season.
