Denny Hamlin Hangs On For 11th At Martinsville
4 years agoJoe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin started from fourth and finished in the 11th position in Sunday's Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Hamlin would lead 42 total laps in the event and win the first stage, which would prove to be significant in the end. Halfway through the race, Hamlin's pit crew had a rough pit stop, dropping the jack and leaving a couple of lugs loose. Hamlin would have to bring the No. 11 back down to fix the issue, losing his track position. As the race was winding down, Hamlin was barely holding on to a championship spot, just a point ahead of Kevin Harvick. Luckily, teammate Erik Jones was behind him and held off on passing Hamlin, securing his spot in the championship race. Hamlin will attempt to win his first Cup Series title next week at Phoenix.
