Deebo Samuel 2019 Player Outlook: Opportunity to Start
5 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers invested a second-round pick in Deebo Samuel and want him as a staple of their offense going forward. Their wide receiver room is a cornucopia of talented pass-catchers who mostly do not exactly have set roles going into the 2019 season. Dante Pettis is probably the most talented of the bunch but has struggled in camp according to some reports, however, is likely to bounce-back and fill duties as the WR1. Marquise Goodwin is the group's elder but is not guaranteed a full-time role due to his skillset. Trent Taylor is mostly stuck in the slot and Jalen Hurd is coming off of an injury and unlikely to have a significant role throughout the year. Kendrick Bourne and Jordan Matthews are JAGs who should steal some play-time. Samuel is an extremely talented WR who can play all over the field and provide after-the-catch playmaking to match his versatility. If he can take a stranglehold on a job after preseason, banking a double-digit round draft pick on him (particularly in PPR leagues) would be wise. The situation is one to watch as these August games unfold.
