Deebo Samuel Seeing Fewer Carries, More Receiving Yds
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has a home game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. The Chiefs are allowing the 14th-most total yards per game and the sixth-most yards through the air. Samuel is coming off a 79-yard receiving game and a 115-yard game three weeks ago. He is averaging 71.8 receiving yards in his past four games but just 8.3 rushing yards. He only had two carries in each of the past three games. His decreased usage as a ballcarrier looks like it will carry through the rest of the season now that the 49ers have acquired RB Christian McCaffrey from the Panthers. McCaffrey might also cut into Samuel's volume on screens and plays designed to spark the offense. But if the 49ers offense moves the ball more efficiently with CMC, gains more first downs, and scores more points, Samuel could make up for it. He is still a premium talent who should be started as a high-upside WR2.
