David Dahl 2021 Outlook: Former Prospect Getting Fresh Start In Texas
4 years agoTexas Rangers outfielder David Dahl has become a forgotten man in fantasy, but a fresh start with a new team could prove helpful to the former top prospect. This, of course, is if he can stay on the field. Dahl's promising, young career has been ravaged by a myriad of injuries, missing at least a month of every season from 2017-20. In fact, Dahl's career-high for games played is only 100 back in his breakout 2019 season where he flashed the potential that made him the 10th-overall pick. Dahl put up a .302/.353/.524 slash line with 15 homers and 67 runs scored in 413 plate appearances before his season was cut short with an ankle injury. Further complicating matters is his transition from Colorado to Texas. Coors Field is the most hitter-friendly venue in the Majors and played a role in his strong numbers. As a result, Dahl's .358 career-BABIP is sure to regress making him a risky fantasy option. Dahl shouldn't be drafted in standard-size mixed leagues but he has value in deeper formats as the everyday left or center fielder for Texas. Keep an eye on Dahl this Spring, if he's healthy he would be a good value in fantasy with an average draft position around 330.
