David Bell 2022 Player Outlook: Late Round Rookie Who Could Provide a Solid Fantasy Floor
3 years agoFew wide receivers were as productive as David Bell during his three seasons at Purdue. In 29 career games with the Boilermakers, Bell averaged 101.2 yards per game and 12.5 yards per reception. He finished his career with 21 touchdown receptions while primarily operating as the team's WR1 on the outside. A poor combine performance and lack of explosive speed threatened to knock Bell out of the first three rounds of the draft, but ultimately, he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round. The rookie joins a team that lacks a true second receiver after Amari Cooper and could carve out a role quickly. Bell has an excellent chance to carve out a role as an outside wide receiver or big slot for a team that is lacking strong receiving options. A Deshaun Watson suspension could change the outlook of Cleveland's offense in a hurry, but Bell has a great chance to be on the field and could easily finish second on the team in targets regardless of the quarterback. Drafting him in the later rounds and getting a potential high-volume option is a risk worth taking for a relatively low cost.
