Darcy Kuemper Falls Short Against Islanders
2 years agoWashington Capitals goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 28-of-29 shots on goal in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout loss against the Islanders. Kuemper surrendered a goal to Islanders forward Pierre Engvall to open the scoring in the second period of the contest, and it was the only goal allowed for the remainder of regulation and overtime. Kuemper has only managed to pick up two wins in his previous eight starts for a struggling Capitals team, and the chances of securing the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference are getting lower with each loss in the closing stages of the regular season. Kuemper has been productive in his first season with the Capitals as he has posted a .912 save percentage, 2.70 goals against average and six shutouts through 51 appearances.
