Daniel Suarez May Benefit From Trackhouse's Intermediate Speed, but Don't Count On It
7 months agoOn paper, Daniel Suárez seems like one of the best longshot candidates in this weekend's Coca-Cola 600. Both his win at Atlanta and his only other top-five this season (at Texas) came on high-banked intermediates just like Charlotte. Suárez qualified 14th for tonight's event, giving him his best starting position on a non-drafting track this season, and intermediates are Trackhouse Racing's fastest track type. Two years ago, Suárez had one of the best runs of his career here with a 4-0 lead change record, even though he crashed and finished 25th. That race was arguably Suárez's only strong run at Charlotte, and despite his win at Atlanta this year, he's having his second-slowest season to date. Although he's likelier to run well here than elsewhere, his overall lack of speed in recent months will probably override that.
