D'Angelo Russell Working To Improve Defensively
1 year agoLos Angeles Lakers point guard D'Angelo Russell was demoted to the bench for the team's final outing in 2022-23, and he is determined to avoid the same fate in the new season by focusing on improving his defensive play. "Yeah, I mean, last year they found a way to get me off the floor by not playing defense, I guess," Russell told Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times. "So, [I] try to be a reason to eliminate that. Not give them a reason to not have me on the floor. Try to be as dangerous as I can on offense and try not to be a liability on defense. So, that's what I'm working on. I'm trying to do it now before the season so I continue to practice those good habits." Lakers head coach Darvin Ham has already confirmed that Russell will be back among the starters in 2023-24. However, he has shown he isn't afraid to make big changes, and this should keep Russell on his toes and working hard on his weaknesses.
