Dallas Goedert 2021 Outlook: A New Era in Philadelphia
4 years agoWe know the propensity the Eagles have to utilize the tight end position. Whether it be the likes of Brent Celek or Zach Ertz, they use them as often as possible, as evidenced by Ertz's 23.8% target share in 2019. If they are going to do the same this season, it will be Dallas Goedert who gets the nod. Not only did Ertz have a miserable season in 2020, but he has also now stated to the team that he will not participate in any OTAs or training camp until he gets his release or is traded. While not good for Ertz, it is great for Goedert managers. who have been waiting for him to take over the TE1 role in the offense. As a rookie, Goedert scored five touchdowns. With the downslide in the Eagles' offense in 2020, Goedert's production followed downward. He managed just 46 receptions for 524 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games. With a new offense, a new Head Coach, and a new starting QB, the potential for Goedert to be the next breakout at TE is there. It was only two seasons ago that Ertz was a clear-cut top three TE in the league and set an NFL record for targets by a TE with 156 in 2018. He followed this with 136 in 2019. With Ertz all but gone, expect many of those targets to transfer over to Goedert. This does not make Goedert a TE worth over drafting, though. We all hope a breakout happens, but it is far from a certainty. It does make him near the head of the pack when it comes to lower-ranked TEs worth taking a chance on. Likely to be a top 10 TE, he is also going to be taken right around the same range. If he trends up and starts to go higher, there are other options who would be better. But if his price stays steady and you can get him later in drafts, he is worth it.
