Cubs Have Interest In Reunion With Jake Arrieta
4 years agoThe Chicago Cubs have some interest in a reunion with free-agent starting pitcher Jake Arrieta, with the team likely to sign one or two buy-low starters on the open market. Arrieta says that he is healthy and ready to go and was scheduled to throw a bullpen for interested teams on Friday in the Austin, Texas, area. The 35-year-old right-hander won the 2015 National League Cy Young Award with the Cubs and helped lead them to their World Series title the following season. But he's dealt with injuries the last two years with the Phillies and had a 4.36 ERA in 64 starts in the last three years with Philadelphia. Arrieta had a 2.73 ERA in 128 starts from 2013-17 with Chicago. SNY's Andy Martino reports that the Mets will be in attendance at his throwing session. Fantasy managers will want to see Arrieta back healthy before taking a chance on him after he had a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:16 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 44 1/3 innings in 2020.
