Free-agent forward Corey Perry and the Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly have a mutual interest in signing a contract. The veteran had his contract terminated after 16 games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks for what was referred to as conduct detrimental to the team. Perry became eligible to sign an NHL contract after meeting with commissioner Gary Bettman on Wednesday. The 2010-2011 Hart Trophy winner tallied four goals and nine points across his brief stint with the Blackhawks this season but has remained a productive bottom-six forward at the age of 38. He tallied 19 goals as recently as the 2021-22 season and also had 40 points in that campaign. He would likely spend time on the second power-play unit should he and the Maple Leafs agree to a deal.--Brenton Kemp
