While the NFL reported fewer lower-body injuries during the 2023 season, concussions were on the rise, which is reflective of the league's struggles to reduce head injuries. Overall, players missed 700 fewer games due to injury in 2023 than in 2022, and the NFL believes the primary factor in that reduction is a drop in the number of lower-body injuries. Historically, those types of lower-body injuries result in the most games missed. The total number of concussions suffered in preseason and regular-season practices and games was 219 in 2023, up from 213 in 2022. Concussion numbers are lower than they were several seasons ago, but that progress has largely stagnated. While there were slightly more concussions in 2023 than the previous year, injuries in general were down and should continue to decrease as the league puts more of an emphasis on player safety.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
