Collin Johnson 2021 Outlook: Talented Sophomore Will Struggle For Opportunity
4 years agoAt a massive 6'6, 222 pounds, Collin Johnson has the prototypical size to dominate on the outside. Couple that with his 73rd percentile speed score (playerprofiler) and Johnson is definitely a name worth remembering in the event he finds his way into playing time. Unfortunately, that last part is going to be problematic. The Jaguars have D.J. Chark locked in as their WR1. Laviska Shenault is entering his second season and will compete with free agent signee Marvin Jones for second billing, with the other firmly third. That would appear to put Johnson fourth, but that may not be the case. With James Robinson entrenched as the early down back, Travis Etienne is likely to play more of a role in the passing game and is a lock to out-target Johnson as well. Best case scenario puts Johnson fifth on the target totem pole. Trevor Lawrence should be quite good rather quickly, but asking him to support three fantasy relevant receivers is a tall task. Four is simply not happening. Johnson would need one, if not two injuries to Chark/Jones/Shenault to matter, but, at the very least, he's someone that has the ability to matter should opportunity fall into his lap.
