San Diego Padres starter Clayton Richard went eight innings Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, allowing three earned runs and seven hits while striking out eight. The start was Richard's best since Opening Day, but the Padres were shut out 4-0 and he wound up with the loss. Despite frustration over the Padres poor starting rotation and lurking minor league pitching prospects, Richard seems safe for the time being after this outing. For the season, he is 1-5 with a disappointing 5.72 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Aside from the most avid risk-takers, Richard is not an ideal fantasy option. His next opportunity comes at home this Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Richard owns a career 3.32 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 472 1/3 innings at Petco Park.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
