Chris Bassitt 2023 Player Outlook: Reliable Profile Could Pay Fantasy Dividends
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt had a solid 2022 season with the New York Mets, going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 22.4% strikeout rate in 30 starts and 181 2/3 innings pitched. While his strikeout numbers were middling, Bassitt was able to once again pitch deep into games while avoiding hard contact. His exit velocity and hard-hard rate were both in the top 15 percent of baseball to go with a 10.8-degree launch angle. Bassitt relies on three different fastballs, hence the mediocre strikeout numbers, but does everything else well in terms of providing fantasy value. Bassitt's signing with the Blue Jays does mean a move to a more hitter-friendly park, but he will still have one of baseball's strongest offenses backing him up. The 33-year-old is currently being drafted at pick 157 overall, making him the 62nd pitcher off the board. He is being drafted behind pitchers with perceivably higher upside, such as Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, and Joe Ryan. He may not be the most exciting fantasy pitcher, but Bassitt's high floor could result in better numbers than those other pitchers going up to 30 spots ahead of him.
