Chase Elliott Finishes Second At Homestead
4 years agoHendrick Motorsports' Chase Elliott recorded 27 laps led on his way to a second consecutive top-five finish on Sunday at Homestead. Elliott was actually in first with just 30 laps remaining in the race, thanks in part to crew chief Alan Gustafson's strategy during the final round of pit stops. Unfortunately for the No. 9 team, Elliott was unable to hold off Hamlin, and in a post-race interview Elliott identified an issue with handling lapped traffic that may have contributed to his relinquishing of the lead. Elliott also appeared to be running Hamlin down in the closing laps of the race before brushing the wall and ending any chance for a dramatic finish. Elliott will look to tighten up his performance and capture his second win of the year at Talladega on Sunday.
