Chad Green Poised For Bullpen Role Again
7 years agoAfter being a spot starter with the New York Yankees in 2016, Chad Green was transformed into a reliever by the time he was promoted back to the majors in May. The 26-year-old only made one start, which came in June, but plans of becoming a full-time starter were far from the conversation. That’s because Green was outstanding as a reliever, becoming a late-inning weapon for the Yankees. He recorded a 13.43 K/9, while walking just over two per game, also keeping his BABIP at .236, giving up less than one home run per nine and stranding over 80 percent of baserunners. He would up posting a 5-0 record with a 1.83 ERA in 40 games, later becoming the key figure as the Yankees won the AL Wild Card game. Looking forward, the right-hander doesn’t appear to be in the conversation as a possible starter, meaning he will remain a force in the bullpen. Unfortunately for his fantasy value, he isn’t remotely close to the closer role, meaning value will come in an occasional win and plenty of strikeouts.
