Casey Mize Being Shut Down
The Detroit Tigers have decided to shut down their top prospect, starting pitcher Casey Mize, with just under two weeks left in the season for Double-A Erie. Mize's shutdown isn't medically-related and is expected to take part in the team's instructional league on Sept. 13. He'll be cleared to have a normal offseason. Mize was on the injured list for four weeks this summer with shoulder inflammation, but it also helped ease his workload in his first professional season. The 22-year-old finishes the year 8-3 with a 2.55 ERA over 21 starts with Single-A Lakeland and Erie. In six starts since he returned from his injury, Mize was 0-3 with a 7.09 ERA while allowing 34 hits over 26 2/3 innings. Mize is the No. 2 prospect in baseball and should be in Detroit's rotation at some point next season. He needs to be owned in dynasty/keeper leagues already.
